Tzaneen teen (19) earns Springbok call-up

Former Hudson Ntsanwisi High learner, Vanessa Gabadi, has earned a Springbok u/20 call-up and a place at the Bulls Daisies camp.

TZANEEN – Vanessa Gabadi, a former learner at Hudson Ntsanwisi High School and a resident of Mokgolobotho, is making her mark on the rugby field and raising the profile of the province.

The 19-year-old rugby player has recently been invited to attend two of the most prestigious camps in the rugby calendar. She first participated in the Springboks u/20 camp held in Stellenbosch, where her performances earned her selection to represent South Africa in the United States later this year.

Gabadi described receiving the call-up to the Springboks as both humbling and a great honour.

Her continued dedication and hard work also secured her a place at the Bulls Daisies camp, which took place at the University of Pretoria Tuks in June, where she once again impressed coaches.

Finding her passion

The hooker said she has consistently put in the effort on the field and is pleased to see her hard work paying off.

Her rugby journey began when she enrolled at Hudson Ntsanwisi High School in Grade 9 at the age of 15. Although rugby was not initially her passion, she gradually fell in love with the sport. The more she committed herself to the game, the more she excelled.

Proud achievements

“Some of my proudest rugby achievements include being selected to represent the province, receiving a national call-up in 2024, and playing for the national team in Zimbabwe,” she said.

Through rugby, Gabadi has learned that the sport is not only about physical strength, but also about courage, determination, teamwork, and self-belief.

She concluded by thanking her family, coaches, and friends for their unwavering support, saying their encouragement continues to motivate her to work harder and pursue her dreams.
