Phalaborwa’s Mongwe qualifies for SANDF Championships
The local runner delivered strong performances across cross country, track and road events at the SANDF 4-in-1 Championships to secure his place at September's national event in Pretoria.
PHALABORWA – Present Mongwe, a local avid runner and SANDF running club member, recently took part in the Athletics SANDF 4-in-1 Championships, held at Kopanelo Military Sports Ground in the North-West province.
Six days, four disciplines
The six-day event featured a range of disciplines, including cross country, track and field, road running, and walking.

A qualification well earned
Mongwe gave his best in every event, hoping to rank among the top runners and secure qualification for the SANDF Championships in Pretoria in September. His efforts paid off; he made the cut after strong performances across the board.

In the 10km cross-country, he finished second with a time of 00:38:00.
He also placed second in the 5 000m road running, took first place in both the 1 500m and 400m, and finished fifth in the 10km road running.
His impressive all-round performance was enough to secure his qualification for the championships.
Eyes on Pretoria
Speaking to the Herald, Mongwe said he was happy to have been selected to compete in Pretoria and pleased with how well he performed in his first-ever cross-country race.
