Walk-up music has baseball star’s popularity booming

Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus' dedication to his son has fans on all teams shouting his name.

Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has made himself a star in the American baseball league this season, not only for his exceptional form but because the song he has chosen for his walk-up music has endeared him to fans from all sides of the game.

When it is his turn to bat, Andrus very seriously grabs his bat and walks up to the plate with the tune “Baby Shark” blaring over the stadium speakers. He said it was because he wanted to put a smile on the face of his one-year-old son, Emilio Elvis.

“It reminds me of my son and gets me where I want to be for an at-bat,” Andrus told the Dallas Morning News. “You will get used to it. I did.”

So far, “Baby Shark” has also been a smash hit for Andrus.

The 30-year-old shortstop had three hits in his first three at-bats on Thursday, including a 121-metre home run, in the Rangers’ 12-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs on opening day.
