What to do with mom for Mother’s Day

There is plenty to do with mom this weekend in celebration of Mother's Day. Here's a round-up of some of our favourite activities.

This Sunday, 14 May, is another special day for mothers and a chance to show them how special they are.

We rounded-up some of our favourite things to spoil mom with this Mother’s Day below.

Where to go on Mother’s Day

The Cradle Boutique Hotel will host a special lunch served from 12 noon for just R195 for kids under the age of 12 and R650 per adult.

Cradle Boutique Hotel executive chef Sam Ramokoka’s love for his mother has inspired him to draw up a special menu featuring some firm favourites and classics for Mother’s Day. Sam said he is who he is today because of his loving mother.

“I love Mother’s Day because these wonderful women who have raised us should be thanked and paid tribute to. All mothers everywhere need to be recognised and appreciated for the love and care they give us. Remember that without mothers, we are nothing,” he added.

The Menu

The chef said the menu he created for this special day is made up mostly of hearty food, reminiscent of the kind of meal that a family would share together. This includes: mandarin orange chicken salad, an Asian-inspired succulent chicken breast, orange segments, rocket leaves, sundried tomato, pickled cucumber, and a mandarin dressing for starters. For the main course, there’s a slow-braised lamb shoulder with butternut puree, potato fondant, root vegetables, and bone marrow. Dessert will feature cinnamon and red wine poached pears with custard for dessert just to mention a few.

Hot new poolside eatery at Clico Boutique Hotel & Restaurant

Clico Restaurant is a new hot poolside eatery at Clico Boutique Hotel & Restaurant in Rosebank. At the launch, world renowned chef Dario de Angeli, who is also Clico’s head chef, told The Citizen that he wants people to know that Clico Restaurant is affordable and accessible.

From as little as R135, you can choose a nice meal from their irresistible offerings, which include Chef Dario’s handmade fermented pizza dough, an authentic Neapolitan-style pizza.

“Think puffy yet light, crisp crusts, creamy mozzarella, and toppings that will make your tastebuds sing. These are no ordinary pizzas! Standouts include Porchetta (spicy pork loin and shoulder, chili honey, fennel, and salsa verde), or go to a whole new level with the 400 degrees signature pizza featuring Parma ham, truffles, burrata, aged parmesan, and fresh peppery rocket.”

But it’s not all about pizza at 400 degrees at Clico as you can also enjoy healthy generous salads made with fresh vegetables, the perfect match for authentic pasta! There are also tender, juicy meat skewers cooked in the wood-fired pizza oven served with dips and focaccia bread to soak up all the deliciousness.
