Academic has eyes on world stage

He urged all students, especially those who will be going to tertiary institutions next year, to work hard and believe in their dreams as they are capable of succeeding beyond their imagination.

BARBERTON – A local academic, Nelson Madonsela, will put Barberton on the map when he participates in an international conference on civil and environmental engineering.

Madonsela, who is doing a master’s degree in operations management at the University of Johannesburg, said he has been invited by the Planetary Scientific Research Centre in India to present a paper with the title “Improving the South African manufacturing sector’s competitiveness through the adequate use of information and communication technology (ICT)”, which will take place in Johannesburg from November 27 to 28. The conference aims to bring together researchers, scientists, engineers, and students to exchange their experiences, ideas, and research results about all aspects of science, engineering and technology, and discuss the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted.

“My research explores the impact of ICT on service design and operations. It is rewarding to be recognised internationally as a postgraduate student. I plan to use the experience that I will gain from this conference to contribute toward the upliftment of the local community, the country and the continent as a whole,” said Madonsela.

He urged all students, especially those who will be going to tertiary institutions next year, to work hard and believe in their dreams as they are capable of succeeding beyond their imagination.

His paper presentation in Johannesburg will be published in the International Journal of Research in Engineering and Technology (IJRET). IJRET is an international peer-reviewed, online journal published by Sun Publications for the enhancement of research in various disciplines of engineering and technology.

The aim and scope of the journal is to provide an academic medium and an important reference for the advancement and dissemination of research results that support high-level learning, teaching and research in the fields of engineering and technology.
