Man in court for ‘breaking baby’s leg’

A 37 year-old man from Mhluzi appeared in court on charges of child abuse and assault.

It is alleged that the man, whose identity is being withheld because his relation to the seven month-old victim is unknown, threw the baby against a mirror and against the floor, causing the child to break a leg.

The accused is also said to have assaulted two other people by threatening to kill them on the same day.

The incident allegedly took place in May this year. The man was released on R500 bail and will appear in court again early in September so that copies of the docket can be made available to the defense.
