Video: The most arrogant thief?

Most people would be forgiven for thinking that break-ins happens late at night, when nobody is awake and the house is vulnerable and dark.

It’s also more likely to blame that “weak spot” in a corner or roof. But for Mrs Engela van Hoffen of Kanonkop neither scenarios apply.

On Tuesday, late in the morning, Mrs Van Hoffen, came back from work for a quick break and did not realise she was in for a big surprise.

A young man, looking to be in his late 20’s, simply walked into the yard through the open gate and proceeded to check out the surroundings.

He even had time to spy on Mrs Van Hoffen, who was in the back with her helper, sorting through laundry. After spending sometime walking around, the intruder made his way into the vehicle which was parked in the yard and left.

Mrs Van Hoffen, only realised what had happened after she discovered several pairs of keys – to her business and to some of her relatives houses – some cash and remotes were missing,

After investigating, she and her husband then came to the realisation that the car had not been broken into as there was no damage to the vehicle but rather, someone had very easily helped themselves.

The entire incident was filmed on the couple’s CCTV, which was how they discovered the theft. The most shocking part of this ordeal for the Van Hoffens was that the intruder had brazenly attempted to use one of the several pairs of keys he had stolen to gain entry to the house.

Luckily, Mrs Van Hoffen was in possession of the actual house keys and thus the could’ve-been burglar was stopped.

What the Van Hoffens want the public to know is how arrogant criminals have become and how easy it is for them to gain entry to properties.
