WARNING GRAPHIC – Five babies dumped in less than two months

A fifth baby, born at full term, was discovered in Middelburg, bringing the tally of dumped babies to a staggering five in less than two months.

The baby girl, still wrapped in the placenta, was found next to a dumpster in the CBD, by a number of school children.

The discovery comes on the back of the August 6 discovery of a foetus dumped next to a stream in Nasaret.

Vigilant community members however raised the alarm, after a pregnant woman suspiciously lost her baby during the time of the grim discovery. Breanda Mrenga was later arrested for pregnancy concealment.

Three foetuses, two discarded at the dumpsite, and the third next to a busy footpath in Mhluzi, was also discovered on 14, 15 and 19 July.

Two of the babies was at full term, while the third, estimated at 8-months gestation, was found without the right leg. • In 2012, two fortuses was also discovered, one in a dumpster opposite Rex Cafe, and the other drifting in a bucket in the Athlone Dam.

• In 2014 Baby X was miraculously found alive after hours next to the railway track where she was dumped, wrapped in newspaper. Paramedics believed that she was kept warm by the newspaper leading to her survival. She has since been adopted by a Gauteng family.
