Coffin case set to continue today

The bail application for the two coffin assault accused, Willem Oosthuyzen and Theo Jackson, is set to continue today. Yesterday saw Det. Const.

Dimakatso Bahule took to the stand to testify about the statements if Victor Mlotshwa and Denton Sithole.

She opposed bail mentioning two phone calls to Mlotshwa, one where an unknown male requested to meet him near his house and the other from a private number where someone offered him R10 000 as evidence that the accused might meddle with witnesses and the investigation.

A docket of intimidation opened on Tuesday, wherein a Blinkpan farmer received death threats, shows that it will be dangerous for Oosthuyzen and Jackson to be released on bail, Det. Const Bahula said.

Advocate Jean Welch represented the accused. He said that most of bail hearing evidence was hearsay evidence. During cross examination Det. const. Bahula said that she would not have a problem if the accused were released on bail should they relocate somewhere else where they could not meddle with the investigation.

She mentioned another matter where Jackson allegedly shot ten pigs of another man. But had to admit that she had not investigated the matter and that the complaint did not open a case. Cross examination will continue today.
