A bloody weekend

It was a violent and bloody weekend for Middelburg with three people, two women and a man, losing their lives in what seems to be two separate lovers' tiffs.

On Saturday night, the body of a woman was discovered in a room at the Towers hostel on the Old Belfast Road. She had several stab wounds to the face. According to information, a note was found next to the body.

The note read that anyone who wants to find out what happened to her, must phone the number written down.

The number belonged to a woman who lives in the Eastern Cape. Her brother, who was in a relationship with the deceased, are now being sought for questioning.

Less than 24 hours later, on Sunday shortly after 13:00, residents of an informal settlement next to the weighbridge on the R555 (Stoffberg Road) heard two gunshots.

Police have opened an inquest and murder docket after the death of a couple next to the Stoffberg road on Sunday.

When they investigated, they found the bodies of a man and woman lying on top of each other in the veld. The couple who lived in the settlement, both worked as security guards.

Signs on the scene indicate that the man (37) shot his partner and then laid down on top of her before shooting himself. The acts were committed with his security service pistol.

None of the deceased have been formally identified. Police have opened an inquest docket for the man who shot his girlfriend and are investigating two murder dockets for the two women that were killed.
