Ten years of love and care…
It takes a village to raise a child - and in South Africa, the number of orphans, makes this metaphor, an indisputable fact.
The Middelburg Care Village, which celebrated its tenth anniversary, is therefor aptly named.
It is a village a home to 100 children, between the ages of 3 and 18-years, placed there by the Mpumalanga courts.
Presently, there are nine houses, each with a house father and mother taking care of about 12 children.
All a child needs is a stable home and that is what Middelburg Care Village is providing to the youngsters.
Middelburg Care Village has 28 full time staff, under stewardship of Colin Hasses, an-ex policeman who, decided on an early pension seven years ago to throw his weight into the Care Village full time.
The village is dependent on donations and support from the public and the basic needs for food, clothes and toiletries, are always there.
The village also enjoys the financial support of trade and industry, the mining and energy sectors and other large businesses who see it their duty to give back to those most in need.
The milestone was celebrated with a sit down dinner at Riverside Estate on Friday.
The children of the village entertained esteemed guests with song and dance.
The hall was filled with dignitaries who forked out R2400 per table in further support of the village.
Steve Tshwete mayor, Mr Mike Masina, toasted the event and expressed his gratitude towards village loyalists while urging those who can contribute, to do so.
Those willing to contribute in any way, can contact Colin at 013 243 3176.
