‘No!’ to fireworks

The nuisance bylaws will come into effect this December, prohibiting residents from setting off fireworks.

The municipality has called on the police to assist with ensuring that residents adhere to the bylaws.

Sales of fireworks will also be strictly monitored.

Firework sales will only be allowed by dealers who have obtained the necessary sales permit, after inspection by the fire brigade who will issue the certificate.

Illegal dealers” fireworks will be confiscated, and the dealer fined.

Confiscated fireworks will then be destroyed by the SAPS bomb squad in Secunda.

The municipality haven’t received any applications for marked areas where firework displays can be held.

A show will however be hosted by the municipality at Themba Senamela Stadium on New Year’s eve.

Residents should call the police with any disturbances.
