Miracle man
Be it the safety features of a Mercedes Benz, or the quick response of a truck driver, Tuesday was just not Mr Lesley Mohale's time to die.
Mr Mohale miraculously survived a collision with a truck on the Hendrina off-ramp shortly after dropping off two colleagues at Hendrina Power Station for night shift.
“I was travelling towards Middelburg when a massive truck suddenly turned towards the N4 in front of me,” Mr Mohale recalls vividly.
The truck was coming from Middelburg and Mr Mohale had right of passage to continue straight towards his brother’s house in Middelburg, before heading back home to eMalahleni.
“I was travelling at 100km/h and tried to brake but there was simply nothing I could do,” Mr Mohale said adding that he thought that he was a dead man.
“You don’t often read about any survivors when cars end up underneath a truck,” Mr Mohale told the Observer with a victorious tone.
His golden Mercedes Benz came to a halt underneath one of the two trailers of the truck, with Mr Mohale’s face pressed slap bang to the trailer.
He did not sustain a single injury other than having his legs caught stuck behind the steering wheel.
Paramedics thought the worst upon arrival at the scene and were rendered speechless when a fully responsive Mr Mohale told them that he was fine.
Needless to say, Mr Mohale is now a die hard fan of Mercedes and all he can say about the loss of his car, is “Eish, eish, eish!”.
“The near death experience was a spiritual awakening for me, I’m sure that every one says it, but I’m very happy to be alive and plan to live my life at full throttle from here on end,” he beamed.
According to the police, neither the truck driver nor his passenger sustained any injuries, and no damage was caused to the truck either.
“The truck driver told police that he did not see Mr Mohale advancing, and that he came to a halt after hearing a sudden bang,” W/o Lize de Witt told the Observer.
