On the accident report Rodney Ngoveni is listed as the driver of a vehicle registered in the name of M.J. Ngoveni who ploughed through the walls of two houses causing damage worth thousands of Rand.

Brig. Ngoveni is said to have arrived on the scene, shortly after the accident that happened, between 11:00 and 12:00 on the day.

Both Hester Vermaak and Piet Croukamp said that brig. Ngoveni was willing to pay the damages caused to their property whilst he was on the scene.

He even wrote his contact details in Ms Vermaak’s book, one of her family members said.

The homeowners claim that it was only after the accident that brig. Ngoveni allegedly said that he is not liable for the damages because his son had an asthma attack.

W/o Lize de Witt, Middelburg police spokesperson, said after a meeting with brig. Ngoveni on Monday, that he denies that any of his family members were involved in an accident on the said day.

A source has since confirmed that a case of using a vehicle without consent was opened by brig. Ngoveni on 23 December. On the docket he stated that he found his son sitting on the lawn when he arrived on the scene.

Photo’s of the accident scene show the young Mr Ngoveni with a bandage around his head but no oxygen mask, raising questions about the probability of an asthma attack.

Ms Vermaak and Mr Croukamp had to claim the estimated damage of R25 000 caused to their property from their own insurance.

Upon enquiry on Wednesday brig. Ngoveni said he viewed the matter as personal and of no interest to the community. Because of that he did not want to comment on matters involving his family.
