(Warning) Graphic Content: Man severs penis, scrotum, in suicide attempt
A resident of Kranspoort attempted to commit suicide by slicing off his penis with a sharp knife on Monday night.
The man, whose identity is known to the Middelburg Observer, climbed into his bath tub and amputated both his penis and scrotum.
The man simply placed the severed sex organs on the edge of the tub, but later became anxious, and alerted a security guard.
The security guard immediately notified the man’s mother.
Paramedics responding to the emergency also found deep gashes on the man’s stomach and leg.
He didn’t respond to paramedic’s questions, but paramedics say he was fully coherent.
Paramedics had to endure the sight of the severed penis and scrotum on the edge of the bath, right next to the man, while treating him.
The 37-year old man was taken to Groblersdal Hospital by Life24 ambulance services of Groblersdal.
A number of Middelburg paramedics also rushed to the scene to assist.
He was described as stable and out of danger on Tuesday.
