According to witnesses on the scene, the drama started when a traffic officer stopped a delivery truck.

The confused driver remained in the truck, spurring the traffic officer to attempt to break open the door. Upon failing to do so, the officer later called for backup.

A video taken by bystanders on the scene, shows how officers drag a truck driver out of the truck.

According to Ms Prudence Magutle, Head of Communications at the Steve Tswete Local Municipality, “the truck driver was stopped by traffic officer Jackson Motua for using the wrong route.

The truck driver entered town via Walter Sisulu, which is the exit route.

When he was stopped he refused to open the door and to produce a valid drivers license, Mr Motua then called for backup.

When the backup team arrived, the truck driver continued to refuse to get out. When he was pepper sprayed, he kicked an officer on the private parts, causing the officers to become aggressive”.

Bystanders became enraged when the officers refused them to take videos. Many of them got pepper sprayed.
