Hampers makes for happy children

Children’s faces lit up when they received a hamper and school bag from the An Nasiraat Women’s Forum on Tuesday morning.

These hampers consist of bread, soya mince, canned food, soup and maize meal that will last up to more or less five days.

The An Nasiraat Women’s Forum adopted the Evergreen Primary School as project in 2013 and they distribute food on a quarterly basis at the end of each term. They also give out meat parcels once a year and sanitation products to girls on a monthly basis.

“There are about 145 children in the government subsidised school. The meal they get here is the only meal they get for the day,” said Aadila Bhikhoo, chairperson of An Naasiraat Women’s Forum.

The children are mostly from underprivileged families where the parents are unemployed and extremely poor. The An Naasiraat Women’s Forum saw the need and decided to intervene.

In January 2014 the An Nasiraat Women’s Forum handed out school uniforms for 40 of the most needing and deserving children. They also gave the grade R class a much needed makeover.

The community would like to thank these women who are true helpers stepping up when there’s a cry for help.
