Phone lines down after damage to underground Telkom optics

Phone lines from Bronkhorstspruit to Nelspruit are down after damage to Telkom’s optic cables in Middelburg, following a brief power outage in the town around lunchtime on Tuesday.

According to a reliable source within Telkom, technicians will have to work through the night to trace the problem and fix it.

Specialized equipment will be used by highly trained optic fibre specialists within Telkom, to fuse the line where the fault occurred.

Presently Telkom technicians are also in the dark as to where the fault lies. The optic fibre lines are all underground.
“We hope to have the lines back and working by Wednesday morning,” the source said.
