Update: Learner dies in hospital

Siphamandla Choma, the 14 year old school child of Manyano Primary who was allegedly assaulted by an educator in Mhluzi late last year, has died.

His uncle, Johannes Choma, confirmed to the Middelburg Observer that Siphamandla died in hospital on Sunday, 19 March, after he deteriorated over the past few weeks.

Update: Headmaster remains suspended
Siphamandla was accused of stealing R150 before he was beaten up by a principal, which allegedly left him paralyzed.

The educator was suspended last month and the department stated that they launched an investigation into the matter.

His family laid a R25 million lawsuit against the Mpumalanga Education Department, of which the department acknowledged receipt.
