Audio: Herder speaks about daily struggles on Gupta mine owned land
Families who have been moved from Kwaggafontein and Bosmansspruit farms by Optimum Mine, are complaining that while the mine is making money, they are losing it, because their livestock was not relocated alongside them.
The cattle have been fenced off in a small camp, and their herder has to travel by taxi from Rockdale, Mhluzi, daily, to tend to the animals.
There’s no access roads to the camp and the herder has to walk a few kilometres to get to the camp.
He claims he can only let them graze for three hours before having to return home by taxi.
Seven cattle has died from starvation since the beginning of March.
