Man arrested in connection with 39 rape and robbery cases in Mhluzi, Vosman

Police have made a major breakthrough when they arrested a suspected serial rapist in connection with 39 cases of rape and robbery.

Brig. Leonard Hlathi, provincial spokesperson, said that a suspect was apprehended in Maviljan Trust near Bushbuckridge after a lengthy investigation resulting from cases being opened as far back as 2009 until 2015.

The suspect, a former security guard, was connected with charges opened in Mhluzi in Middelburg and Vosman near eMalahleni. Complainants alleged that a man broke into their homes whilst they were sleeping.

They were held at gunpoint, raped and robbed of their belongings.

The man, who cannot be named before he has pleaded before court, is scheduled to appear in the Circuit of the Pretoria High Court sitting in Delmas on 22 May 2017 for trial.
