Hundreds of students of the Middelburg College are on the rampage.
They have staged a protest on Meyer Street and have blocked the road, setting up fires, stoning cars and throwing rubbish on the road.
All residents are advised to stay away from the Meyer Street bridge and avoid the area completely.
