Watch: Leopard saved from snare

A magnificent leopard male, estimated to be six years old, was saved from a snare in the Ohrigstad district.

Leopard expert Gerrie Camacho took the injured leopard to Ubhetyan-o-Africa, an animal sanctuary close to Middelburg, to try and save its life.

Big cat specialist vetenarian Dr Peter Caldwell from the Old Chapel Veterinary Clinic in Pretoria, performed several operations on the cat. The last operation was done to remove scar tissue that formed around the wound.

The leopard is currently recovering at Ubhetyan before it will be released into the wild in Ohrigstad again, this time equipped with a microchip and radio collar.
