Two year upgrade on Hendrina road

A two year project to upgrade the N11 road between Middelburg and Hendrina will include the resurfacing and widening of the road, more than 40 km in total.

The project already started earlier this year and as it moves along there will be slight interruptions to the flow of traffic, according to Tankiso Makhele of SANRAL.

“There will be no major disruptions other than a couple of Stop/Go points planned for later stages of the upgrade project,” he said.

The length of the road is described on the SANRAL website as “fair to good”, and expected travel conditions are that motorists may encounter maintenance teams along the way, together with an advisory for road users to be alert to the vast quantity of coal trucks travelling from Hendrina to Middelburg.

Makhele said that the single carriageway will be open for most of the construction work and that no delays were so far experienced.
