Why was a police reservist executed?
The beloved brother and father of two girls, who paid with his life to serve the Breyten community as a police reservist, was bound like an animal and shot execution-style before being dumped 150km away from his home.
Enoch Mnisi, the 45-year-old murder victim Lungile Mnisi’s brother, says that the discovery of his death, one month after his disappearance, has brought unspeakable grief to the family and has left a gaping hole in their lives.
Enoch described his brother as a loving, single father to his two daughters, and a supportive family man.

Lungile was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed farming on the family property in Breyten. He also offered a lot of assistance to neighbouring farmers and was heavily outspoken against farm attacks and murders.
Enoch explained that it was due to the rising crime in rural areas that spurred him on to join as a reservist.
Enoch said that the family is grappling to come to terms with his murder and can’t for certain say why someone would do this to him.

He said that his brother was part of a pending court case, “Around last year, November or December, he was arrested and a case was made against him. When I asked him what happened, he explained that he had arrested stock theft suspects. The police then arrested him and accused him of being complicit. When this happened, he opened a case with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), but the cases were ongoing and I can’t say much more about it.”
Lungile then went missing on 15 February and was only found a month later in the bushes between the Loskop Dam wall and Mossienes Nursery.
He was discarded like an animal and was murdered execution-style, with his hands bound and a gunshot wound to the head.
www.mobserver.co.za has sent a media enquiry to the provincial media spokesperson for the SAPS, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, but no response has been received.
An enquiry was made on 25 February and 19 March, but neither afforded a response.
Lungile Mnisi will be buried on Thursday in Breyten and is survived by his his two daughters, 12 and two years old, and other extended family members.
