A house went up in flames in Turquoise Street, Extension 18, shortly after 14:00 on Wednesday afternoon.

Black smoke bellowing from the back of the house filled the air, spurring neighbors to call emergency services.

Middelburg Fire and Rescue Services arrived swiftly and contained the fire to a backroom of the house.

The occupants of the house was not present when the fire started.

Its unclear what caused the fire.

A report on the possible cause of the fire will be released after the investigation is complete.
