Police urge vigilance after spike in petty crimes

The Middelburg SAPS has issued a warning to the public to ensure that valuables are kept safe and hidden after a rise in theft from motor vehicles has been observed.

Media Spokesperson from the Middelburg SAPS, Capt. Khanyisile Zwane gave the following safety tips to avoid becoming a victim of crime:

• Ensure that possessions are kept in the boot and windows and doors should be manually locked.

• Avoid carrying valuables in the open for all to see.

• Reduce cellphone usage in the public to avoid common robberies.

• Students should walk in groups to and from school to avoid being targeted.

• Move within busier areas during early morning hours, rather than quiet areas.
