Body found at indoor cricket arena

The body of a homeless man was found lying at the entrance of Middelburg’s Indoor Cricket Arena early this (Tuesday) morning.

The unidentified man was only wearing a shirt when he was discovered by three female youths enrolled at the Nkangala TVET College.

The women, who requested anonymity, said they went to the indoor cricket arena, where Wi-Fi is available, to download some documents needed for their studies.

At first, they thought the man was sleeping and left when they saw he was pantless.

They were, however, disturbed enough by the sight of the man to return to see whether he was in need of any help.

“That is when we saw his eyes were open and blankly staring at us,” one of the girls told the paper at the scene.

A www.mobserver.co.za journalist identified the man as the same person who asked motorists for a lift at the Middelburg Provincial Hospital on Monday morning, “He was asking motorists for a lift, but I immediately realised he was not well,” the journalist says.

The man was foaming around the mouth while accosting motorists for a lift. His trousers were also open at the front, leaving his genitals exposed.

A large pile of clothing was found about a metre away from the body, which was found lying face down.

It’s unclear whether the man received medical assistance before leaving the hospital.

An inquest docket has been opened.
