Town mourns passing of former Speaker Mayoyo Xaba
Tributes are streaming in for Alderman Robert Mphikeleli “Mayoyo” Xaba, former Speaker of the Steve Tshwete Council and Municipal Public Accounts Committee.
Mr Xaba passed away at around 18:00 in Life Midmed Hospital on Monday evening. He was struggling with his health at the time of his passing.
Mr Xaba also served as Chairman of the Middelburg Hospital Management Board, a position which he relinquished in protest.
As a councillor, Mr Xaba will be remembered for his selfless community service.
Funeral details have not been made available.
