Absa Bank het ’n unieke Nelson Mandela versamelaarsmunt, wat der duisende rande werd is, “verloor”.

Die Absa-tak in OR Tambostraat het dié waardevolle munt “verloor”, nadat hulle glo van bewaringskluise ontslae geraak het, sonder om huurders in kennis te stel.

Bekende Middelburg sakeman en wynboer, mnr. Bernhard Heyns, het ongeveer R875 000 se skade gely, toe sy bewaringskluis, wat hy vir 11 jaar by die tak gehuur het, weggeraak het.

Hy het ’n rare munt, ’n Nelson Mandela een kilogram, Gold Commemorative Medallion, wat gewaardeer word vir R875 000, in die bewaringskluis gestoor.

Toe sy seun, wat sy sake bestuur, ses weke terug na die munt wou gaan kyk, is hy deur die personeel in kennis gestel, dat die kluise weg is.

Mnr. Heyns het bevestig dat die munt verseker is vir R815 000. Absa het volgens korrespondensie wat www.mobserver.co.za gesien het, aangebied om hom met R9 300 te vergoed.

•Daar kan dalk meer inwoners wees wie se waardevolle items in die bewaringskluise was en nie bewus is dat dit weg is nie.
