Attempted murder investigated after police officer shoots civilian

A man who allegedly stormed police officers attending to a callout, was admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds.

According to information, two police officers attended a domestic violence call at Ongeziens farm next to the R555 (Stoffberg Road).

A man, who appeared aggressive upon their arrival, allegedly stormed the police officers with a knobkierie, hitting a police officer on his back.

One of the officers fired four shots at the man, hitting him on his left leg, twice on his right arm and once in his stomach.  The man was admitted to the Middelburg Hospital, the police officers walked away unscathed.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate was informed and a case of attempted murder was opened.
