Boer verloor 90% weiding, mielies, na wegholvuur

’n Boer in die Van Dijksdrift omgewing is na gister (Woensdag) bykans 90% van sy wieding kwyt na ’n wegholvuur.

Francois Rossouw sê hulle vermoed die vuur is deur ’n kortsluiting by ’n transformator op ’n kraglyn aangesteek.

Sterk winde het die vlamme vinnig laat versprei en dit het groot skade aangerig. Buiten vir die verlies van weiding is infrastruktuur soos pomppype en houtpale ook vernietig.

Van sy pa, Dolf, se mielies het ook in die slag gebly. Daar was geen verlies aan lewendehawe nie.

Mnr. Rossouw sê dat sy vuur nie kwaadwillig aangesteek is nie, maar dat hy wel berigte ontvang het van brandstigting nader aan die N11 (Hendrinapad) op dieselfde dag.

’n Middelburg inwoner wat op pad eMalahleni toe was, het die brand, wat sig op die hoofweg belemmer het, afgeneem.
