One suspect arrested in yesterday’s Roots Butchery Fidelity cash ambush

Accomplices of the robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police arrested one suspect in yesterday’s Fidelity cash robbery at Roots Butchery in the CBD.

The robbery occurred shortly after 17:00 when the Fidelity employees collected cash at the supermarket.

Fidelity’s Klaas Mampuru was leaving the supermarket with the cash when a man pointed a firearm at him and demanded the collected cash.

A colleague of Mr Mampuru, however, grabbed the suspect’s arm and wrestled him him for the firearm.

A Roots employee joined in and together they overpowered the robber and he was handcuffed.

According to the local SAPS the suspect’s cell phone was confiscated during the arrest.

Accomplices of the robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

They fled in a blue BMW. The robber is in custody.

Bystander’s reports of multiple gunshots were fired during the robbery is untrue.
