Earthquake detected near Hendrina
Despite an earthquake to the magnitude of 2.4 being detected, Hendrina and Carolina residents were blissfully unaware of the tremor says Mr Corrie Wolmerans, a member of the Hendrina Radio Group.
According to Volcano Discovery, the tremor was detected on Tuesday at 15:41, about 21 km north-east of Hendrina.
Mr Wolmarans said that the location of the quake was closer to Arnot and that Hendrina and Carolina residents never felt or heard anything.
According to a Rietkuil resident, they did feel and hear the impact of the tremor, but explained that it was typical to a blast from the mines.
It could be possible that the seismic activity that was detected was caused by a blast.
