Lewarnes en Smit nader aan verhoor

Marlene en Clive Lewarne wat van meer as R14 miljoen se belegginsbedrog beskuldig word, het Dinsdag vlugtig saam medebeskuldigde Annelie Smit, in die streekhof verskyn.

Die saak teen die trio is uitgestel na 7 September waartydens ’n verhoordatum vasgestel sal word. Nog die Lewarnes, nog Smit het op die klagtes teen hulle gepleit.

Hulle almal staan tereg op verskeie klagtes van bedrog, geldwassery, en die oortreding van beide die bank- en kredietwette.

Daar word verder beweer dat hulle steeds beleggers vir die Ponzi-skema gesoek het, terwyl hulle bewus was van die ondersoek teen hulle.

Die ondersoek het meer as twee jaar geneem om te voltooi.

Beleggers is groot opbrengste op hul beleggings belowe, maar uitbetalings het gou begin opdroog. Marlene Lewarne sou glo die geld in mynkontrakte, wat sy by myne in die area bekom het, belê. Die kontrakte het nooit bestaan nie.
