More than 295 suspects arrested

The Nkangala District Commissioner, Major General Lilly Lentsoane, praised the police in her district for the sterling work done over the past week where more than 295 suspects were arrested.

General Lentsoane indicated that the arrested suspects violated amongst others, murder, armed robbery, sexual offence, pointing of firearm, business burglary, attempted murder, drunk and driving, violation of the lock down regulations, public drinking, assault with an intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

Some were arrested for theft, possession of dagga and drugs, house breaking and theft as well as undocumented immigrants and other violations.

Some of these suspects have already appeared before different courts in the district and some are expected to appear before courts on 16 August. Inclusive of these successes are those who were scored during Operation Basadi.

“Crime is a problem to all of us and we need to join hands together and fight it. I am pleased with the successes however there is still a lot to be done,” said General Lentsoane.

She further indicated that in some areas within the district, victims are being robbed of their vehicles by people posing themselves as police.

Another issue which is a concern to the District Commissioner, is the fact that there are liquor outlet owners who are disregarding the stipulated trading hours and are thereby warned.

“Police will do everything in their midst to fight crime and enforce the law however, we need the community to play their part” .

She also thanked members of the community who are always working side by side with police in the fight against crime.
