Garbage collection suspended – Tariff riots has Mhluzi in turmoil

Garbage collection has been suspended in Mhluzi over ongoing protests until further notice.

Collection in town is however ongoing, dependent on the spread of riots, municipal spokeswoman Ms Prudence Magutle confirmed.

The town’s main landfill site has also been closed due to the riots. Waste transfer stations outside Mhluzi is however still open for now, but might also be closed to ensure municipal officials’ safety during the protests.

All roads leading into and out of Mhluzi has been affected by the ongoing protests with burning tyres and rocks blocking entry and resulting in workers not being able to get to work.

The Vandyksdrift road and Naledi Village is unaffected.

Residents should avoid Mhluzi until further notice.
