Vaccines for 18 and older slowly picks up

Despite an encouraging level of enthusiasm seen across the country towards the Covid-19 vaccination rollout for citizens aged 18 to 35, the Steve Tshwete District still needs to pick up steam.

After a visit to several local vaccine sites, it was confirmed that vaccinations since last week Friday have proceeded as normal and that an unusual turnout of our youth has not yet been observed.

According to recent statistics, 830 vaccinations for the latest age group were done out of an estimated population of 180 000 since last week Friday.

Chairman of the Middelburg CPF, Ms Ena Pilodia, who is an active role player at the AGS Lighuis vaccine site, attested to having a busy day on Wednesday. She ascribed the slow turn out due to their examination period and expects things to pick up gradually at a later stage.

• The Department of Health will be vaccinating at the Middelburg Mall over the weekend, the vaccine site is situated next to the Spec-Savers store.
