Vandalism and theft of Eskom isolator blades affecting Dullstroom and surrounding areas

Eskom has said that the theft of isolator blades at Plato Substation caused a loss of supply to all 11kV feeders in the Dullstroom, Otavi, Sakhelwe and Tonteldoos areas last night.

The power outage started at around 21:00, on Monday August 30.

The power utility reported that teams are currently on site to restore the power supply.

“Eskom is currently investigating the situation. No restoration time is available at the moment,” the company said in a press release.

The issue follows the theft of isolator blades in four substations in the eHlanzeni District over the past two weeks. The customers affected by the current outage include Dullstroom town, the water treatment and sewage plant, Sakhelwe, Otavi and the Tonteldoos farming areas.

“Eskom calls on its customers and communities to assist by reporting any suspicious activity on its electrical networks to your closest Eskom office and the Eskom Crime Line number 0800 11 27 22.

Eskom is working with the law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

Customers are urged to treat all electricity lines and wires as live during any power outage.
