Roads blocked in Extension 24 amid taxi violence

Police are currently in Extension 24 monitoring the situation, motorists are advised to exercise caution when using the N11.

The entrance of Extension 24 has been barricaded with burning tyres to prohibit taxi’s from entering the area.

The ongoing taxi violence between the Middelburg and Nazareth District Taxi Association escalated on Monday when MDTA taxi owner, Ben Mahlangu, was gunned down during protest.

Police are currently in Extension 24 monitoring the situation, motorists are advised to exercise caution when using the N11.

Both associations are disputing the Extension 24 and Rockdale routes.

MDTA embarked on a protest on the N11 on Monday. Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport MEC, Mohita Latchminarain, was expected to visit Middelburg on Thursday however the meeting was cancelled.

The MEC was supposed to present the final report about the recommendations for the ongoing disputed taxi routes.
