A taxi owner affiliated with the Middelburg and District Taxi Association (MDTA), says the taxi that he owns was set alight, by what he believes to be rivals belonging to another taxi association, last night.
The incident happened about 800m from the taxi owner’s home in Extension 24 around 23:30.
Neighbours of the taxi owner alerted him of the burning taxi, he says was pushed by the culprits from his yard to where it was set alight with a burning tire doused with petrol.
Neighbours assisted the owner in extinguishing the flames before alerting the police.
The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, believes rival taxi operators are responsible because earlier the same day, he was insulted by taxi operators of another group.
MDTA and the Nasaret and District Taxi Association (NDTA) has been warring over Nasaret and Extension 24 routes, resulting in the killing of a taxi owner early last week.
The owner is offering a R5000 reward to anyone with information which could lead to the arrest of the saboteurs.
