Information from the Middelburg Police Communication Office is that a couple, driving from Middelburg to Doornkop in a Toyota Avanza, gave a lift to three men.

After arriving at Doornkop and stopping at Skierlik to drop off the men, they pulled out guns and demanded money and the keys to the vehicle from the victim. In the process, the man was shot in the stomach.

His attackers drove off with his car, with his girlfriend still in the vehicle. She was later dropped off next to the road in the direction of Groblersdal.

The police are investigating a case of hijacking. No arrests have been made yet.
