Woman arrested for alleged murder of son

A 60-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday, September 26, for allegedly killing her 18-year-old son.

According to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Mr Spanky Sefuka (18) reportedly arrived at his home in GaMasemola Kgoogo Section in Nebo during the early hours of Sunday morning at around 05:00 after attending a wedding. He then allegedly started insulting his 25-year-old sister and threatened her with a knife.

Spanky’s mother, Beauty Sefuka (60), allegedly tried to intervene but was also threatened with the knife.

“Beauty allegedly used a wooden stick to strike Spanky until he succumbed to the assault,” said Brig. Mojapelo.

After the incident, Beauty went to the Nebo Police Station and reported the incident. She was immediately arrested.

“When police visited the scene, they found the deceased lying on the floor with gruesome injuries.”

Beauty appeared in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a murder charge. She was granted bail of R1 000, and the case was postponed to October 21 for further police investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned this incident and has urged members of the community facing any domestic challenges to seek assistance before the situation spirals out of control and someone loses his or her life in the process.
