The head on collision between a white hatchback car and a Mazda double cab bakkie claimed the lives of all the occupants in the car.

Lifeless bodies were strewn in and around the car in the horror scene. Mpumacare Ambulance Services were first to arrive on the scene. ER 24 arrived shortly thereafter to assist. Seven other patients, including an eight month old baby, were treated for injuries on the scene. At least four patients were in a critical state.

The accident occurred around a slight bend, 45 km outside of Middelburg between the Selonsrivier and Wapadskloof turnoffs on the R555.

Traffic traveling towards Middelburg had to use the road shoulder whilst traffic towards Stoffberg used the right lane of the road to pass the scene.

Curious motorists who stopped at the scene got the fright of their life with one woman who looked into the wreck, nearly fainting as she walked back to her car.
