Middelburg Police safety tips for residents

The Middelburg Police are appealing to residents to be cautious as the festive season approaches.

This comes after the Covid-19 regulations were eased and numerous complaints of hijacking, business robbery and house break-ins were reported at the police station.

Hijacking tips:

– Avoid travelling alone at night
– Always be alert when driving
– Do not pick up hitchhikers
– Be extra vigilant when approaching intersections

Business robbery tips:

– Do not keep a lot of money on the premises
– Be on the lookout for suspicious customers
– Do not keep the shop open till late
– Avoid being alone on the premises

Residential house break-in tips:

– Always be on the lookout for suspicious persons and vehicles
– Request neighbours to keep an eye on your property when you are not home
– Do not open doors for strangers
– Verify the personal details of prospective employees
– Check the authenticity of a contractor before you allow access to the premises
