Municipal Manager Mr Bheki Khenisa organized two water tanks to deliver water to Kees Taljaard Stadium, where all Mpumalanga school districts were taking part in the provincial playoffs for Mpumalanga teams.
Buses have left the town en masse after discovering that no water is available for the visiting teams in 32 degree heat.
The two tankers were tapped dry by striking municipal employees who have gathered at strategic points to sobotage ongoing contractor services.
Scores of buses have left the town after dry taps greeted eager sportsmen and girls looking to secure their places on the provincial teams.
Sporting events included table tennis, chess, rugby, soccer and netball.
In Mhluzi basketball and volleyball tryouts continued.
Meanwhile, other parts of town, most notably Kanonkop and Dennesig, are entering their third to fifth day without water.
