Kanonkop and Dennesig are experiencing water shortages again, with some high lying residents without water since last Friday.

While supply to large parts of Kanonkop and Dennesig has been restored since Monday, high lying areas of both suburbs still don’t have water.

According to mayoral committee member for infrastructure Cllr Johan Matshiane, water shortages persist in many areas. He says the reservoirs aren’t filling up because residents with water are storing backup supplies.

“We have seen residents washing vehicles, watering gardens and even spray cleaning their driveways and pavements, we urge them to stop,” Cllr Matshiane says.

“If residents continue to disregard other residents who face shortages, the supply to areas with water will be disconnected until all reservoirs are filled,” he warned.

Cllr Matshiane is currently inspecting reservoirs throughout town, to decide which supply lines would be shut, in order for high lying reservoirs to fill.

“It’s a basic matter of courtesy towards other residents, some of whom had to go six days with no water,” Cllr Matshiane warned.
