With load shedding, the problem was only compounded, with striking municipal employees blamed for Monday morning’s continued outages in parts of Kanonkop and Dennesig.

According to municipal spokeswoman, Ms Prudence Magutle, teams tasked with restoring electricity to areas under load shedding, “were attacked shortly after 05:00 when tending to Kanonkop and Dennesig’s switching”.

No one was injured, “but private vehicles of the switching employees were damaged”.

The teams are presently on site, restoring power to affected parts of Kanonkop and Dennesig.

Aerorand was also without electricity between Friday night and Saturday morning, where a substation was sabotaged. During inspection of the mini-sub, it was found that all circuit breakers were switched off.

Both incidents happened despite striking municipal employees promising not to partake in criminal activities until the strike is resolved.

Water shortages are also ongoing, with no water, or low pressure reported in suburbs serviced by the Graspan, Rietfontein and Aerorand West reservoirs.

Ms Magutle says repairs on the bulk water line is forging ahead, though no estimated restoration time can be given. She again urged residents with water to use it sparingly until water supply to all areas have been restored.
