Greater Middelburg suffers power outage – municipal strike ongoing

A large area of Middelburg is experiencing an electricity outage following the re-implementation of loadshedding.

DA Ward Councillors, Johann Dyason, Helda de Klerk and San-Mari Wait all confirmed that the outages have been reported to the Municipality.

The outages started early this morning affecting Duiker, Kiepersol, Hibuscus, Beyers Naudé, Bhimy Damane, Jeppe and Meyer Streets before affecting the greater Middelburg area.

Councillor San-Mari Wait told www.mobserver.co.za that the cause of the outage has not yet been confirmed.

The sporadic outages that started weeks ago have been ascribed to wear and tear done to infrastructure brought about by loadshedding, as well as incidents of sabotage.

An estimated time of restoration has not yet been provided.

•Residents are also informed that waste collection will not take place today.

An update on yesterday’s scheduled meeting between the Steve Tshwete Municipal Manager, Bheki Khenisa, and Executive Mayor Diphala Motsepe, will be published at a later stage.
