Ratepayers have been subjected to no service delivery since workers illegally embarked on a strike seven weeks ago. The workers have denied every offer the municipality has put on the table.

On Tuesday, the municipal manager told www.mobserver.co.za that he, Mayor Diphala Motsepe and executives were going to discuss the fate of the striking workers.

Kgosi Makwati, who is representing the municipal workers, said he received a call from senior officials early today informing him that the municipality is willing to revoke their court order so that workers can return to work.

If workers fail to do so, the municipality will instruct the police to remove them from the municipal premises, and the municipality will start their dismissal process.

Mr Makwati said the municipality told workers that it would write to the bargaining council to review their salary grading.

In the meantime, striking workers would be expected to return to work, but workers have denied this proposal.

He adds that workers will continue to down tools until their demands are met.

Workers are demanding a pay hike, with 36-months back pay, and also want to be upgraded from Level 4 to Level 5.
